Thursday Updates

WE ARE ORANGE FOR ANIMALS ASPCA

Updates from the Royal Household:

We don't have many pictures but I have been trying to get momma to help me post, (even if it's later in the day) and visit everyone! I give her guilty eyes and it seems to work. Momma has been doing better every day. She can walk and stuff and is cutting back on pain meds. We have had lots of cuddles and naps on the couch! That has been GREAT! She did have a minor setback this morning, she had a coughing fit that made her hurt so bad she could barely move. She is still hurting now and feels like she did days ago. I wish I knew how to fix her lunch so she did not have to get up today, as there is no one but us kitty nurses here. She is kinda upset about it because she was feeling almost normal.
Renna, while a cutie, is driving us a bit batty! She is a ball of energy and its all centered on chewing, mostly on momma. Momma got her puppy teething toys but they only do so much. She thinking hissing is funny! She has tried chewing on my tail TWICE!! I've whapped her on the head, but I swear she just giggles and comes back for more!

Me no being woofie chew toy! Me is hiding in da PTU!

**From Momma Kimmy, Has anyone dealt with a teething puppy that won't stop chewing their beans? Any suggestions? Thanks!**

We are so sorry that your Mommy had a set back but we are sure she will get to feeling all better soon. don't feel bad about hte chewy puppy - our new kitten is chewing on everything too, including Mommy! Or we should say especially Mommy. The only advice Mommy has to help chewy puppies is to give plenty of alternatives. When the puppy begins to chew on you, tell her "No!" and then give her an acceptable chew toy. Some doggies like to chew on ice as well so that might help, espcially if she is painful too from teething.

Oh my Dearest,

That puppy should not be chewing on anyone as royal as you! If you would like, I will teleport down to protect your tail from puppy attacks! And this will leave you more time to nurse your Momma since she had her setback.

Purrs,
Your Jake

P.S. When Georgie was teething, Mommy kept lots of chewy things and toys around (a puppy "Kong" with peanut butter was always a favorite). If she started chewing she said "no" then paused a second and stuffed something else in her mouth and tell her "good dog" when she started shewing the toy instead.

We think that both Capt Jack and Jake gave some good advise on how to handle a puppy that likes to chew. We've never had a woofie in our house...we hopes your Momma feels better furry soon and we will keep her in our purrayers...

hi! with our old puppies and my brothers, it is important to not let them chew the humans. keep a basket of chew toys near by and like Captain Jack and Dante said say NO! Ice is good for sore gums and if the chewy toy can be put in the freezer for a while that can help too.
If someone can get "Bitter Apple" spray, that helps keep the puppy (and kitty) from chewing stuff they shouldn't.
I'm sorry your mommy is feeling so poorly today. I hope that after a good night sleep she'll be over the coughing fit pain tomorrow. We'll send extra purrs and prayers her way. Make sure she takes her time getting better.

Oh dear, Renna is chewing your royal tails - that won't do at all!

I hope your Mummy feels better. It is hard when you have a set back, but tell her to keep her chin up, things will get better and you guys be sure to give her extra cuddles and sandpapery kisses.

I'm sorry your Momma had a setback today. That's not good. I hope she's feeling better later today or tomorrow.

I think when you're training a puppy (or kitten) it's important to be consistent with what you say to them when they're doing something bad. So if it's going to be "no" use it for everything. I wouldn't use "no", "stop" and "down" for different situations. That's a lot to learn when they're little.

Tell her "no", physically stop her from what she's doing, then give her a chew toy and positive reinforcement that that's what she should be chewing on. Make sure you have plenty of chew toys, and in most rooms of your house. She is going to want to play a lot. It will help if Daddy has regular play periods with her that wears her out in the morning (if he can) and in the evening. I say Daddy cause I know your Momma's not feeling too good right now.

Dogs are pack animals and they really want your approval. In time she should learn what you don't like her doing.

I would also make sure your shoes are always put away where she can't get them.

I used to take a damp tube sock and tie knots in it (or a wash cloth) and stick in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes so it was nice a cold, then play tug of war. After a few minutes, just let the puppy p;ay with the sock.

Queen Snickers, we are glad to hear your mom is doing better, but sorry to hear that she had a setback. Our mom knows what that's like! Tell her not to do too much too soon, because she'll still be healing on the inside for up to six months! Sending lots of healing purrs her way.
